Had a song or two from Subdivider’s self-titled album debuted on Radio K’s “The Hit List”, tip toed in (the world so damn busy that we never made the connection), or had we experienced their thoughtful, ear catching songs somewhere on a Pepsi commercial?!! Hmmmmm.
Perhaps this is that long lost Badfinger album that we had learned about sometime in the late seventies from this studio dude that claims to have, in his posession, the one and only, actually existing, quarter inch reel-to-reel tape conveniently stored in a styrofoam cooler in the trunk of his 1963 Dodge Polara station wagon with the blue door that has been parked next to the back garage all these years…an’ maybe a bootlegger discovered it and put out under another band name in order to “CAPITALize” on it without their record label knowing about it? Not the “bitter apple” we would have expected. Sooooo familiar though, not much data on this one…
“Who’s playin’ that guitar riff…Who wrote it? Who’s the singer and did he pen the lyrics?” Strange….. Scour the internet to answer these peculiar questions. Rolling over rocks and climbin’ Over The Hills And Far Away .and you come up with only a couple of sentences……..If this weren’t such a sssswwwwweeeeeeet fuckin’ record……..
Alas. A sign appears as a message within a blanket of steam from a coffee cup….Someone is attempting to speak through the java.
Could this be…..?? Well ASMP! It’s a coffee steam ghost figure of some sort. It claims to be Adam Fekete, and he’s laying some heavy info vibe on me …..”Here’s the scoop”. said Adam F. in a lower reverberated tone hovering above the ceiling. “I played all the guitar parts on that record except the lead guitar on track 7 (“Season to Season”). That was played by Mark Grundhoefer from the band Down Lo. I played all the piano except for track 2 (“Strike a Balance”), which was played by local blues hound Tom Hunter. He also played the Hammond organ on that track. Drums were played by Jake Nyberg, and bass guitar was played by Aaron Fabbrini. I wrote all the music and lyrics.”
Ssshhhit! Better get a pad and pen and write this down. People might want to know this. (The apparition continues) “It was recorded by Carly Zuckweiler at Fuzzy Slippers in St. Paul, and mixed by Brian Ricke.”
Aaaaaahhhh the power of a hot cuppa joe. But what about upcoming gigs? Not a lot being said ‘bout that? And with a refill of the delicious liquid refreshment, the caffiene spirit continues it’s tale…..
“We don’t have any gigs on the books because I play in another band called the Sextons and we just put out a record and signed to Princess records…” adds the floating Adam steam genie, “….So attention is focused there at the moment. The release show for the new Sextons record is March 2nd at Sauce. We are wrapping up tracking on a new Subdivider record that we’re extremely excited about. We’re tracking at Signature Tone Recording with Adam Tucker and I think it blows the last record away. Should see release in 2010 once the Sextons action cools off a bit.”
The coffee grows cold.
If the New Subdivider is anywhere as good as the Debut album, you’d better buy two of ‘em.
An’ there ya have it. end transmission…
